Build A Homemade Greenhouse from Cattle Panels and PVC for $150.00

Buying a greenhouse is a good option for less mechanically inclined homesteaders(our personal pre-fab favorite is this affordable model ); however, building your own simple homemade greenhouse doesn’t have to be a huge undertaking.

Check out TexasPrepper2’s use of cattle panels as walls in his easy greenhouse design:

We at The Brilliant Homestead approve.

Cattle panels are good and tough and will last a lot longer than the cheap PVC walls often utilized in homemade greenhouses.

It’s also hard to beat the price. $150 for a greenhouse? Chump change! All you need to do is use it to grow $150 worth of vegetables and you’ve paid for the thing.

If you really want to add some extra warmth to your DIY greenhouse, get some 55-gallon drums full of water and put them inside. The thermal mass will keep your greenhouse temperatures from soaring or plunging too quickly.

If you live further north, an unheated greenhouse will extend your season but eventually water barrels won’t cut it for keeping plants warm. Even a few months is a good bump on the gardening season, though – and when you’re only out $150… why not go for it?
